Details of ablution fountain from Al-Sultan Al-Zahir Barquq Mosque in Cairo.
The ablution fountain situated in the center of the courtyard has a bulbous wooden dome on eight marble columns. It was used by worshipers to make ablution before the prayer. The sultan attended the first day of prayers at the traditional inauguration ceremonies of a mosque. Records indicate that at the inauguration of this specific mosque, the ablution fountain was filled with sugared water, and sweetmeats were distributed to the congregation.
